Inbound calls refers to calls on your own personal toll free number.   Outbound calls are call backs, paging, and faxing.  Connected Calls are call forwarded calls, call return, and card-less calling card calls.  In the case of connected calls we physically have to make two calls and connect them, therefore, we have to charge a little extra.   For all calls, inbound, outbound, and connected calls billing is in 6 second increments to help minimize your charges.
